Trail Pix from Kurt’s hike

Picking up where I left off on 1 July when Ann picked me up – after I completed the half gallon challenge – and took me to see friends for an annual 4th of July get together. The museum is in Pennsylvania’s Pine Grove Furnace State Park. #appalachiantrail #museums #pennsylvania #icecream #AT2015

Flowers of the Appalachian Trail: Swamp Azalea (Rhododendron viscosum) a native azalea growing and blooming yesterday on the shore of Sunfish Pond in New Jersey, just north of Delaware Water Gap. (I was there taking a break – just after the half way point in my thru-hike – for an annual July 4th get together with friends; back on the Trail in PA on Sunday.) #appalachiantrail #flowers #NewJersey #azaleas #at2015

Fungi of the Appalachian Trail. This delicate fungus is about 2 inches across and growing in similar patches on a pine tree in southern Pennsylvania. Reminds me of stalactites in caverns, except a lot smaller. #appalachiantrail #fungus #mushrooms #pennsylvania #at2015

Sometimes the Appalachian Trail looks like this. This was a few days ago, just after entering Maryland. The Trail itself is on the right. That lower grassy area to the left is the waterless (at this spot, anyway) C & O Canal. The Trail shares the canal’s towpath for a couple miles before crossing the canal and moving up into the hills. There’s an active railroad track up above the canal bed on top of the stone wall to the left. #appalachiantrail #Maryland #canals #at2015

Sometimes the Appalachian Trail looks like this. The white blaze is on a post in the grass to the left. The farmer in the white cowboy hat is on the tractor to the right, mowing the rest of the meadow. This was in northern Maryland. #appalachiantrail #Maryland #farms #farmers #tractors #agriculture #at2015

Fungi of the Appalachian Trail. This is a textbook illustration of whatever species this is. From just into southern Pennsylvania on the #appalachiantrail #fungus #mushrooms #pennsylvania #at2015
