Trail Pix from Kurt’s hike

Sometimes the Appalachian Trail looks like this. This was a few days ago, just after entering Maryland. The Trail itself is on the right. That lower grassy area to the left is the waterless (at this spot, anyway) C & O Canal. The Trail shares the canal’s towpath for a couple miles before crossing the canal and moving up into the hills. There’s an active railroad track up above the canal bed on top of the stone wall to the left. #appalachiantrail #Maryland #canals #at2015

Sometimes the Appalachian Trail looks like this. The white blaze is on a post in the grass to the left. The farmer in the white cowboy hat is on the tractor to the right, mowing the rest of the meadow. This was in northern Maryland. #appalachiantrail #Maryland #farms #farmers #tractors #agriculture #at2015

Journal Entry: Tri-state Day

Woke up yesterday in Virginia. Ate lunch in Harpers Ferry, West Virginia. Went to bed in Maryland.

Okay, not such a big deal, really, in these days of easy travel, but after walking Virginia for so long (I entered the Old Dominion on 18 May, and left it on 26 June, walking all but 2 days in between) well, after that it seems like a big deal to cross two state borders in one day.

But on I go. Despite all the miles,  I'm actually not even quite at the halfway point. That is coming up soon, but I need to cross another of those state borders first.
