Trail Pix from Kurt’s hike

Flat George on the Appalachian Trail with New Jersey’s highest point behind him in High Point State Park. George remembers that Virginia’s highest point had feral ponies, but no obelisk. #appalachiantrail #NewJersey #AT2015

Fungi of the Appalachian Trail. This little (1 to 1.5 inches tall) purplish fungus caught my eye today on the Appalachian Trail north of High Point State Park, New Jersey, and just past County Rd 519. #appalachiantrail #fungus #mushrooms #NewJersey #AT2015

Snakes on the Trail

I saw this little snake on Thursday the 16th and it was polite enough to hold still while I got out my camera to take its portrait. It’s an Eastern Worm Snake (Carphophis amoenus amoenus). They spend a lot of time underground and I can only imagine that this one was on the surface because of all the rain that has recently fallen hereabouts. Sighted him/her a mile or two south of the Mohican Outdoor Center in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. It was about 9 or 10 inches long and about as big around as my little finger.

And did I mention the wineberries I harvested at the underpass where the Appalachian Trail goes under I-80 in the Delaware Water Gap? #appalachiantrail #NewJersey #berries #foraging #wineberries #AT2015

Journal Entry: Progress update

After a fine "second breakfast" [Middle Earth Hobbit reference] and an ice cream cone, Kurt crossed the Delaware River from PA into NJ at Mile 1293.6 of the Appalachian Trail on Thursday, 16 July 2015 (1:21 PM)

And, then not really paying attention to it, he passed the 1,300 mile marker later in the afternoon.
