Snakes on the Appalachian Trail. This particular black rat snake (Elaphe obsoleta obsoleta) lives in southern Virginia near Pearisburg. They’re very quick, and I’ve found it hard to get photos of the couple I’ve seen. Have also seen specimens of 3 other snake species, but again they’re all pretty intent on getting away quickly and rarely pose. #appalachiantrail #snakes #reptiles #Virginia #at2015
