Journal Entry: Progress update on 31 July

Somewhere this morning (Friday) in northwestern Connecticut I passed the point where I only ("only," he says!) had 700 miles left to walk. Right at the moment this evening I have 690.3 miles left to the hike.

Oh, and I'm in Salisbury, CT. That gives me 1,498.9 miles hiked so far from Springer Mountain in Georgia to where I got off the Trail this afternoon to get into town. So early Saturday morning at some point I will have hiked 1,500 mikes on the AT.

And the Massachusetts border is at 1,506.3 … Moving right along here.

Just plain interesting on the AT. This is where the Trail crosses Hurds Corner Road a little bit past NY Rt 22. Hikers climb over the farm fence, and then take a long sunny walk through several meadows in this rural community from which people commute into New York City. #appalachiantrail #newyork #farms #watertower #AT2015

Bridges on the Appalachian Trail. This one is in between Old Route 55 and Route 55 near West Pawling, New York. I like the bend in its middle, going around the tree. #appalachiantrail #newyork #bridges #AT2015

Sometimes the Appalachian Trail looks like this. AND Bridges of the Appalachian Trail. The Trail crosses the Hudson River here at the Bear Mountain Bridge where the sidewalk is on the left. This is also the lowest elevation on the Trail at 180 feet. I walked over the bridge yesterday afternoon. #appalachiantrail #bridges #NewYork #AT2015
