Sometimes the #appalachiantrail looks like this. That white stuff is hail, folks. #Hail Quite the storm yesterday hiking up Roan Mountain. Afterwards there were places the hall piled up ankle high. Just another day on #at2015

  1. WHAT?! Were you hiking in the hail? How are you posting these messages so late at night? Do you have your head lamp on?

    1. Well it started out as a simple afternoon thunderstorm. By the time the hail started it seemed too wet to try to find a spot to set up a rain fly. Plus every step was taking me closer to the shelter, dry clothes, and food. I did shelter for a little while by a rock of ages, cleft for me, with a very small cleft. I only heard of one person who waited it out in a tent before continuing on to the shelter.

And I was wearing my headlamp when I posted that. Right now I’m not, though . Just sitting in my hammock not able to go to sleep for some reason.

  2. We had quite a night, with lots of wind, blowing branches & other debris. Good news is that the temperature today is lovely! Hope it is for you, too!
