Trail Pix from Kurt’s hike

The M*A*S*H-like signboard at the foot of the hostel’s driveway. North Carolina is less than 10 miles away so I should spend tomorrow night in my first new state. The sun’s out at the moment, but appropriately my last day in Georgia will be rainy. #at2015

Some Fellow Hikers I’ve Met Over the Week

Here are a couple trail denizens that I’ve met recently:

I am spending the night at the “Top of Georgia Hostel” after a relatively short day on the Trail. Stopped mostly because of a food box I had mailed here. I was in at lunchtime so the day has become – in hiker parlance – a “Near-O”.  When we take a full day off it is a “Zero Day” (as in zero Trail miles walked). By extension, when we walk few miles (and exactly what that is depends on the hiker) it is a “Near-O” or ‘nearly zero.’

I paid for a bed and a shower and a “hearty breakfast” of scrambled eggs, juice, coffee, and toast (taking a pass on the sausage). Then, I suppose I can get a ride back to the Trail. I am also taking the opportunity to air out some of my gear and finish off the food I brought in with me.

The food box will fill up my food sack again. The lovely letters from Lena and Emily won’t take up much room or add much weight (thanks ladies for the letters! they arrived today, I’m told). I suppose that since I’m running ahead of schedule anyone wanting to send me mail ought to check what my progress is and try to figure where I will be from where I am any particular day.

Thanks for all the comments and support.
